Mary takes a person-centred approach with all her clients.

All therapy begins with a supportive conversation about who you are and what is important to you.

Mary uses a range of assessment tools to identify areas of strength and weakness, which she will discuss with you before starting therapy.  Assessment can include any or all of the following:

  • standardised assessments (paper and pen)
  • questionnaires
  • conversation and story telling with and without pictures
  • rating scales
  • using images to explore the impact of your brain injury
  • ability to use alternative means to communicate (gesture, ABC charts)

Mary will explain your communication changes and plan your therapy with you.  Therapy usually includes important people, activities, and contexts that shape your world.

Mary works collaboratively with other health professionals to understand how physical, emotional and cognitive impairments are influencing communication.

Working with a team of neuro-rehabilitation professions provides a wider range of opportunities to practice communication skills in supportive, real life settings.
