Since 2012, Mary has been building strong relationships with case managers, allied health professionals, and legal teams across the medico-legal sector.
Having a speech and language therapist in your multi-disciplinary team is essential. Communication is so central to every aspect of the client’s rehabilitation, that the presence of a speech and language therapist can make all the difference to the wider success of the team. Cognitive communication disorder (CCD) is prevalent following ABI, with 66-75% of survivors reporting CCD. Screening
“By developing simple and personal tools for J and those around him, Mary’s professional but relaxed style developed communication skills that the entire team benefit from. If we could change anything about J’s rehabilitation, it would have been to bring Mary into the MDT alongside the Psychologist and before the rest of the MDT. Itdoesn’t matter what message you are trying to communicate, if you don’t knowhow to communicate tothe client”

It can be difficult to identify when a client requires input from a speech and language therapist because CCD is so often a hidden disability.
The CCCABI (Cognitive Communication Checklist for ABI) is a really useful screening tool for identifying when a person is living with cognitive communication disorder. If the CCCABI suggests that your client has cognitive communication disorder, please contact me to arrange a detailed assessment.
CCD has a significant impact on an individual’s outcomes and is a predictor of return to work. Mary’s high quality therapy has been consistently recognised and recommended in the medico-legal.
Real life therapy
One of Mary’s core practice values is to tailor all therapy to real life. She specialises in working with people who are in post-acute rehabilitation, seeking to resume activities of daily living.
Rehabilitation is always planned around the client’s meaningful, real life aims—whether that is returning to university, managing interactions with professionals, writing a will or buying a home.
