Since 2012, Mary has developed strong relationships with case managers, neurorehabilitation therapists across allied health professions and legal teams. In this context, Mary has been involved with people who are receiving rehabilitation in relation to medico-legal cases. She enjoys working closely with other team members and has a reputation for building a strong rapport with clients, who know that their individual needs are understood.

I have found Mary to be an excellent practitioner and an asset to my client’s team of therapists. She was able to work with the client on a 1:1 basis, understanding the client’s needs quickly and identifying goals with the client to work on. I particularly liked that Mary was client focussed. My client reported that Mary was fantastic to work with and progress was measurable and clearly defined. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mary to work with clients who have sustained brain injuries and hope to work with her again in the future.
Anna Flemming, Case Manager, 2018
One of Mary’s core practice values is to tailor all therapy to real life. She specialises in working with people who are in post acute rehabilitation as people living with acquired brain injury return home and resume activities of daily living.
Mary will provide a comprehensive and detailed assessment of language, voice, motor speech and communication. Rehabilitation will be planned around the client’s meaningful, real life aims. In the past, these have included resuming or growing into new family roles, dating, returning to study at school and university level, returning to work or voluntary placements, buying a home and managing personally relevant interactions with other professionals.
It can be difficult to identify when a client requires input from a speech and language therapist because cognitive communication difficulties are often hidden. The Cognitive Communication Checklist for ABI (CCCABI) is a really useful screening tool for case managers and other health professionals to use in their initial assessments. If you think one of your clients might have cognitive communication difficulties, please contact me for a further conversation.
